100 Words or Less

Here's the deal: I want a bread machine and you're going to sell me one. There are so many out there on the market today that I don't even know where to begin. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to recommend a bread machine for me in 100 words or less.

Alright, it doesn't have to be 100 words, but I do want to know the pros and cons of the particular machine you chose. It needs to fit into my budget as well--I'd prefer to spend less than $100.

The only feature I'm certain that I want is the ability to make just dough without the machine baking it. If I want to make rolls, for example, I'd want the machine to do the mixing and kneading for me, but allow me to do the baking part in my oven.

Size is also important to me. I don't want one that will take up much more room than my toaster oven or Kitchen Aid stand mixer. (I know, tough criteria!)

Ok, I'm ready. Lay it on me!

  1. Amy, here's my 2 cents worth. I'm not a huge fan of bread machines. Nevertheless, they can be useful for certain things. I had an Oster that I just gave to my MIL a couple of months ago. I had bought the same model for both of us several years ago. She wore hers out and mine was barely used. I thought it made a pretty good loaf of cinnamon raisin bread, but wasn't worth crap for whole wheat. The crust gets very thick and tough even on the light setting. Mine did have a dough only setting which I believe most of them do. Mine took up about the same amount of room as my toaster oven, just taller. I really didn't have room to store an appliance that was used only occasionally. So that's my offering and I'm sure it was quite helpful.....rolling eyes. 147words....I never did follow the rules very well. LOL

  2. Susna, thank you. Actually it WAS helpful! Is a bread machine one of those appliances you can set and forget? You know I work nights...if I came home in the morning and put all the ingredients together, then went to bed, would I wake up to a loaf of bread or a brick? I'm a big fan of machines that do the work for me in the kitchen, such as my crock pot.

  3. I LOOOOOOVE my Breadman Plus. I have had it for at least 6 years now and it's still going strong. It makes box mixes, dough only, jam and jelly and every kind of bread imaginable. I have used it for holiday fruit breads and they turned out great. It's size is 8X13 and 13 1/2 tall. Very easy to use, just push the start button and select a setting button and it has an alarm when it's time to add fruit, nuts etc.

  5. Hi Amy, I'm new to your blog, came over from Kim's Achorn Farm.

I was given a breadmake 2 years ago by a good friend. It was given to her but she had no use for it. It's a Breadman Plus and I love that machine!

I just looked up Amazon and they have a Breadman TR875 2-Pound Breadmaker, Stainless Steel. It's priced at $87.98 on Amazon and it has a dough setting & programmable(no, I don't work for Amazon).

    Hope this helps.

  6. OK, so Breadman is a recommended brand to look at. I will have to do some research on it. I like to shop on Amazon.com because I can use my credit card points there. I get a lot of freebies that way!

  7. I love home-made bread, but was making too much of it, so I gave our bread maker away!! Now I wish I had it back.

  8. Assuming you haven't bought one yet, thought I'd throw our experience into the mix.

We got an el-cheapo Sunshine brand bread maker at Walmart years and years ago. It was $40. We use that thing all the time. Mel can make dough in it, and bake it into pie crusts, carmel rolls, etc. Even this cheapy has the option to delay the mixing, so you can set it for exactly when you plan to be home. We rarely actually bake the bread in it, but it is useful to mix up the dough and bake loaves in the oven. The nice part is that it keeps everything clean and contained, and really doesn't take much electricity when used that way.

    Ok, I think I'm under 100 words. I like 100-word recommendations too. :)
