Who's The Slacker?

From the Management:

It has come to our attention that some of you hens have been laying substandard sized eggs. We understand that spring is here and there is green grass to graze all day and bugs to chase, but ladies, let's keep our minds on our work. Pullet eggs are not acceptable from full grown hens. We appreciate your diligence and attention to detail in this matter. Thank you.

  1. Ha! That's funny. Our &^#$% hens are laying in the compost pile again. :)

  2. Ron, well of course! Don't you know that's the best place to lay eggs?

  3. I don't know where one of mine is laying. Why can't they just stick to one spot? Don't they know it is hard for us to keep hunting down new nests?

  4. lol! Good reminder. I've got one hen that lays eggs a little bigger than a grape. I know they are useless eggs for food...but gosh! Are they cute! I plan to gather them as they are laid, blow them out and decorate them one day. :)

  5. Christy, chickens can be the most aggravating creatures! I don't know which is worse: chickens or goats!

Lisa, I admit, little eggs are darn cute. Especially the pullet eggs you find when chickens just start laying.

  6. What a cute post :)

I don't have chicken 'perience, but we had more than a little frustration during our goose 'perience! Tootsie seemed to pick the worst places for her nests the two years we had her, driving her city-slicker humans NUTS.

  9. Very funny.....mine have all started laying again, 5 eggs a day, not 6 yet i guess one thinks she deserves a day off every other day. Nice work on the layout too, very cute ;)

  10. I'll be reading this message to my hens as well. I've noticed that some of them are laying eggs that are smaller than usual. But they are a lot darker yolked since things started greening up.

  11. Lucy, geese are pretty smart. I can't imagine how you would retrain a goose to lay where you want. Plus it doesn't help much that they are extremely defensive of their nests!!!

Classy, you said it! Darned chickens!

    Lanny, I don't think they're impressed.

Angie, Spring is definitely here when your girls start laying again. Hurray!

Susan, I've also noticed that the yolks have become darker and richer. I love that. The pale yolks of winter are gone.

  12. But, even at their palest, our eggs were richer than the anemic ones from the store!
