Today my "Nothin' But Pie" party was held at Twelve Acres. Guests were asked to bring their favorite pies along with the recipe to make it. I am putting the recipes together into a pie recipe book which I will distribute at Christmas. It was a huge success and everyone remarked at how great it was to have nothing but pie to eat. Here is the "Before" photo.
Starting in the back row on the left are Mom's first-ever pecan pie, Derek's peach-raspberry pie, and my chicken pot pie. In the bottom row starting from the left are Tyler's custard pie, Debbie's spinach, sausage and feta quiche, Rachel's peanut butter pie and lastly, Delores' chocolate custard pie.
The menu is sinful, no? Who cares.
Here I am with my homemade chicken pot pie. The chicken I used was the last of my own chickens that Jim and I butchered in July. I hated to use the last bird so I saved it for this occasion. Everyone remarked on how good it was.
Look at the damage we did to these pies. The quiche and my pot pie literally disappeared! I highly recommend a pie party to anyone. It's such fun to see what everyone brings. And it's easy as pie!
Yum-OH! Yikes, my mouth is watering just looking at that splendid array. I love custard pie, but I've never tried to make one. I guess with all these eggs, now would be the time to try, huh.
ReplyDeleteCute picture of you with the pot pie! Did Jim take that? Is this going to be an annual affair?
Susan, yes you should do SOMETHING with all those eggs. *sigh* I've never made a custard pie either but I do like the flavor. It reminds me of egg nog.
ReplyDeleteMy mom took the picture of me. I'm not sure if we will make this an annual affair. It might be fun to do a sequel next year. The food sure is great!
What fun! It's too bad I wasn't there to clean up the leftovers! :) Every one of those pies looks delicious!!
ReplyDeleteIn the spirit of the holiday season, I donated 4 dozen of my precious eggs to my mother-in-law, sister-in-law and my 90-year-old Aunt Marie (my mom's only living sibling). David and Jaye took them down home (Lawrence Co.) with Christmas gifts today. I opted to stay home and take care of the chickens. I even made my father-in-law lasagna for his birthday dinner and an apple walnut cake and banana nut bread for my Auntie. Ain't I sweet?
ReplyDeleteTammy, you'll have to arm wrestle Jim for the rest of the pecan pie!
ReplyDeleteSusan, yes you ARE sweet! I LOVE lasagna! That's a great gift to give someone. When you cook for someone you say "I care".
Well, I guess I'll just have to find out when your birthday is!
ReplyDeleteSusan, Ooooh! I'll give you a hint: I was born the day before Neil Armstrong walked on the moon.
ReplyDeleteJune 19, 1969?
ReplyDeleteAnd I didn't even have to look it up! I was sixteen and had just started dating David. God, I'm old!
ReplyDeleteAmy, what a great idea. I love chicken pot pie, my favorite. Looks like a good time for all.

Susan, you got the day and the year right but the month isn't.
ReplyDeleteChris, it was a lot of fun. You shoulda smelled the house today. It was sensory overload for sure.
Oh, dang it, it was July, wasn't it! I knew there was something about it that didn't sound right. That's what I get for being boastful. lol
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a pie party! They are look SO yummy. What is that sweatshirt your wearing? My co-workers son is the captain of the hockey team at Ohio State. She told me the tale of the buckeye and she has a necklace of them too.
ReplyDeleteKim, yep that's a Buckeye sweatshirt. I'm actually not much of a sports fan, but Buckeye apparel is always a hit in these parts! That's intersting about your friend the coach. Small world eh?
ReplyDeleteI want to get some Buckeye trees started on the property. There are NONE which is really hard to believe. I love the beautiful burled-wood look of the nuts.
Very, very neat idea! After our neighborhood cookie bake the other day (which I haven't blogged yet) The girls were trying to think of other ideas we could do together. This one is certainly a winner!! Thanks for posting about it, Amy!
ReplyDeleteSunny, you'll have a lot of fun with a pie party!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Amy!! Was the pie party your own ingenious idea?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to do this one day, too. I had no idea it was more than just sweet pies, that savory pies were also welcome. Pies for rich Appetizer, dinner and dessert! Yummy!
I liked seeing a photo of you there. I bet your chicken pot pie was scrumptious, too.
Whenever I think of buckeyes I am reminded of my favorite dessert, those delicious creamy peanut butter balls wrapped in chocolate.
Yummy!
Happy Holidays to you,

What a great idea! I made my first pecan pie ever a few days ago. Everyone said it was good, I didn't eat it because it had corn syrup in it and I don't eat corn syrup.
